Indian head massage, also know as Champissage, is an ancient holistic treatment based on the ancient Ayurveda healing system. It has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. Originally, it was used to improve hair and scalp conditions by focusing the massage on the head, neck, and shoulders. Using acupressure massage, it aims to rebalance the natural energy of the body.
The areas being massaged uses firm but gentle, rhythmic movements that involve acupressure points called Marma points. Traditionally, Ayurvedic oils were used in this massage. However in modern times the use of oils has become optional.
Indian head massage is excellent in providing relief from the stress and tension of everyday life. The technique uses controlled rhythmic movements and has a strong effect on the mind, body and spirit. It stimulates and balances what Ayurvedic philosophy calls the Chakra, in this case the higher Chakra’s; crown, third eye and throat. The Chakra is our body’s natural energy centres that we need to keep open and flowing. Because the massage works on the neck and shoulders, physical and mental tension is almost instantly relieved.
